Townsend Bull Elk

Townsend Elk
Townsend, TN Bull Elk

I have to admit that I thought it would be a few more years before the bull elk would make it to Townsend, TN searching for new territories. I also have to admit that when 2 bulls showed up in Gatlinburg, TN a couple days ago, I never expected that one would take a direct path to Townsend and arrive this fast. I have been watching their progress from the Oconaluftee herd for a few years and even the Cataloochee herd have been showing up in the Cosby area. Just last year I watched an Elk Cow who had followed some bulls down I-40 just past the TN line. It was feeding along the interstate, and I reported it to the visitors center because of my fear of it causing a bad wreck. It was only 10 feet from the side of the road. I guess it is only a matter of time before these beautiful creatures start setting up smaller herds here in this area. Meanwhile we can enjoy this young bull as long as he sticks around. I hope you all enjoy this Smoky Mountain Elk from Townsend. As always thank you for following what is happening currently in the Smoky Mountains from the Cades Cove Gallery.
